BT,Sky and TalkTalk network level porn filter

Well UK\’s 3 largest ISPs decided to go with David Cameron and Claire Perry\’s advice on blocking porn on the internet by default. Excuse they gave was to parents with young children don\’t know how to set this up so we get the ISPs to do it for every one. I\’m sure China would have used similar wording to censer the internet on their citizens too.

David Cameron and Claire Perry is not the smartest bunch when you come to technology. I can add daily mail editors to that list too. they assume most parents are dumb as them.

Trouble is this kind a filters don\’t work. any one can easily get around it. Kids now days with internet forums twitter etc easily get help. already many good news website published how to do this.

At home I use opendns to block most of the site I think not suitable for my home. I set it up a way only allow opendns ips to access the port 53. so any one try to trick the system by changing DNS server on the local computer will not work. This is not a best way but works. This is not that difficult to set it up though just use a search engine to search for your router model and opendns server to block porn.

Out of all papers Sun which has page 3 and dailymail which regularly publish some trashy news/pictures campaigned for it.they must have thought reading their trashy papers will make child a better citizens ?

Vigor 2860N Series VDSL/ADSL Router Firewall

It\’s an amazing router for a price I do deal with lot of watchguards they are good and solid but for only £185 this has everything a small business need, works with BT based fibre and any type of ADSL connection,

It has ipv4 and good ipv6 support as well, latested firmware even supporting Hurricane electric type of tunnel.

It has all kind of VPN even openVPN is their.

Only downside I can think of it\’s only has wireless N protocol. not the ac standard.

motorola moto g amazing phone for the price

I hate long mobile phone contacts. All of my phone I use now I just buy it outright or got it as a gift ,and go for the monthly contract with a network, which gives me power to negotiate with carrier. every time I see a good deal even with a rubbish network I phone up o2 and ask me to match it more or less they do.Which I can\’t do if I cant do if I\’m on 24 months contract. you are stuck forever.

I know phones are very expensive upfront but you can find a good deal if you search around don\’t buy the phones from phone companies or places like carphonwarehouse phones4u etc etc. they mark up the phone prices so they can lock you in on long contracts.

I would say go for phones like , or even some nokia windows phones are good if you dont want google to know where and what you up to.

windows server 2012 essentials storage spaces error

I been using the windows server 2012 essentials with HP miroserver for a while now. I\’m using 2 3TB disk two way mirror storage spaces. All went well till yesterday. storage spaces displayed error and it\’s unmount it\’s self, try to repair no luck. They are enough space on the disk and no errors on the physical disk.

tried all the internet solution no luck only way I brought it back deleting and recreating the storage spaces. and restoring it from the backup.

It worked but this didn\’t give me enough confidence to deploy to my clients . Good thing I had a backup

Pfsence is an amazing firewall

OK been using the self build pfsence 2.1 for few days.  It\’s amazing it does moas of the things I do on watchgurard.

This has a amazing ipv6 support.  My isp zen still don\’t do native ipv6  so I have to use a tunnel from Hurricane Electric which works amazing fast.

Now ipv4 internat and ipv6 Internet can access my home server.

how to build a good ipv6/ipv4 firewall on the cheap

I selected firewall software pfsence 2.1 I dont want a massive pc making lot of noise so went with this case Antec ISK 110 Mini ITX Case it\’s comes with 90w external power supply which should be enough

for the motherboard I went with EPIA-LT15000AG Mini-ITX Motherboard, VIA 1.5Ghz CPU, 512MB Kingston PC2-4200 RAM I know this is not powerful but what I\’m going to do it\’s enough. I had a laptop drive which I\’m going to use as a Hard disk.

will keep you updated it\’s going to be my firewall for ipv4 and ipv6, going to manage my SSL vpn when I\’m out and about and remote access to my home server just incase if i need to pick up a file.

whole this costed under a £100 when you think of what you get it\’s amazing value.
